Out of the barage of images last week, this one is the most symbolic to me. This is the one that gives me hope. Not because Obama is a rock-star, or a messiah, or a perfect world leader, or the first African American president, but because of Who this country places her trust in. On the steps of our capitol, heads bowed, we prayed to a Living God to lead our new President and to protect our nation.
President Obama placed his hand on the Bible, the same bible that guided President Abraham Lincoln through the dark days of slavery, the Civil War and the Emancipation Proclamation. The Bible that reminds us that all men are created equal and that we are all one in Christ. The same Bible that calls out: “if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land.” 2 Chronicles 7:14
My prayer is that President Obama will seek the counsel and wisdom of God as he undertakes the highest office in this land. That he will be surrounded by godly men and women who will counsel him wisely. That his family will be a haven and a refuge for him during times of adversity.
On a lighter note, I have to give a nod to fashion. The other thing I love about this photo are the pretty green J. Crew gloves that Michelle Obama is wearing. I too, will wait excitedly to see what the First Lady is going to wear, just like the rest of the world!
